To explain the fascination that I have had while working on this collection of ghost stories and haunted places from the state of Maryland, I suppose that I should tell you that it was my first foray into a state that was once part of the 13 original American colonies. While that may not seem important to you.... as a boy from the Midwest who, although I have traveled extensively, always got his ghost stories from the south and the Great Plains, well, I was amazed at the history and the tradition offered by the ghosts of Maryland. I hope that I will also pass along that fascination to you as read this collection of ghostly tales, which are as varied and as diverse as the state of Maryland itself.
