- HISTORY & HAUNTINGS OF ILLINOIS -
THE BLUE MAN OF CLEMENTS CEMETERY
NEAR URBANA, ILLINOIS
For many years, students from the college and the surrounding area have made late night treks to the cemetery, hoping to catch a glimpse of the ghost. It is said that he only appears by the light of the full moon and that if you should see him, he will be glowing with a translucent, blue color.
The story of this ghost has been around for nearly 150 years. In 1841, a man was found to be hanging, either from suicide or a lynching, near the cemetery. Since that time, this stranger's ghost has said to be haunting the area.
How much truth is there behind this story? I have no idea. I have never actually met anyone who claims to have seen the Blue Man, but then again, you have to wonder just how the story got started in the first place if he never existed at all...?
Clements Cemetery is located east of Urbana, Illinois. Travel east on University
Avenue and then north on High Cross Road until you reach the cemetery.
